I first wandered into massage school in the year 2000. Was studying psychology at the University of Florida and approaching graduation and acutely aware I had acquired no skills whatsoever in university. The Florida School of Massage was a fixture in Gainesville, FL from the 70s and had very strong hippy vibes. The school incorporated mediation and awareness in a way that I'd never experienced in a school setting. The program taught massage but was initially more an experiment in Gestalt Psychology believing that training great LMTs wasn't just a matter of technique but one of mindfulness, presence and a capacity to really focus on another without fixation on self.
It was this orientation I know I was most drawn to and wasn't till months later after giving and receiving various types of massage daily that I truly found my calling.
Unlike my rather useless psychology degree I felt empowered through massage to exert a powerful effect on people's bodies and minds. A way to not just try to help, but to KNOW I helped. People often come to me crazed with pain and stress and that look of happiness and dopey relaxation and gratitude following my work is worth more to me than the income generated! It's what has kept me doing this so long.
I first specialized in sports massage and injury evaluation and have always loved working with those who see massage as a way to perform better. Helping people heal is always meaningful but it's helping people reach their full potential I find most rewarding.
In my free time I love to hike, meditate, cook and very interested in horticulture. My home studio is full of plants and lovely objects and do my best to create a personal oasis that is part spa, part refuge and just a place of peace, tranquility and loveliness.
Please feel free to reach out and ask any questions you have. I have lots of fun stories and experiences to share but also excel at sharing blessed silence and my goal is not just to help you heal but connect with a level of peace that stays with you long after we part.
